The Electric Railways of Victoria – S E Dornan & R G Henderson (9.5/10)

Published in 1979 by the Australian Electric Traction Association, this is the most comprehensive book on Melbourne’s electric railways I’ve ever read. Quite apart from the historical significance of the work, is the well written narrative of the painful and over-long process to bring ELectric Traction to AUstralia’s other big city.

Sadly now long out of print, it is well worth a read if as I did you can get it from your local library network. Still available second-hand from some quite reasonable prices, this is one book that could do with an update. Come on AETA!
