The collapsing empire – John Scalzi (10/10)

When an author gets it right, wow what a difference that makes for the reader. No fluff or frippery, just straight to the meat of the story. In and out. And John Scalzi delivers in the first of a new series set in the far future where earth is lost in the mists of time, and the hyperspace pathways (the flow) that hold the empire together are failing.

Not for the faint of heart, as there’s enough language in the book to make a sailor goggle-eyed, yet a great read all the same. Interesting characters, situations and the clash of wills. Lightning fast read for me. Finished it in only a couple of sessions – finding that I could not put it down.

So looking forward to seeing the rest of the series rollout over the next couple of years.
